ROS: PasMa still an NGO, for now

(The Star) – Persatuan Ummah Sejahtera Malaysia (PasMa) is only a non-governmental organisation, at least for now.

According to Registar of Societies (ROS) director-general Mohammad Razin Abdullah, PasMa is a registered NGO whose purpose is to carry out community welfare activities and charitable works.

He said the group must submit a fresh application to be a legitimate political organisation if it intends to participate in political activity.

“Up until now, ROS has not received any new application by the organisation to be registered as a lawful political organisation in line with the Societies Act 1966,” Mohd Razin said in a statement Wednesday.

Talk had surfaced last week alleging that PKR and DAP may engage a newly set-up PAS splinter group, following the falling-out between the two Pakatan Rakyat parties and the Islamist party in the Selangor mentri besar crisis.

PKR, DAP and certain PAS leaders were reportedly upset that PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang had allegedly decided to nominate three candidates from PAS for the mentri besar post.

Disgruntled PAS members were said to be working towards transforming a new entity from a non-governmental organisation to a political party.

However, it appears there were disparities in the names of office-bearers of PasMa, which was registered on Aug 11.

According to the ROS, the registered office-bearers are chairman Mohamad Faiz Mohd Taib, his deputy Muhamad Hisomudin Bakar, secretary Mohd Taib Ahmad, assistant secretary Mohd Iqbal Mohd Shariff, treasurer Mohd Rosli Abu Bakar, and committee members Mohd Zainal Hussin, Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali and Mohamad Abdul Razak.

This is in contrast to claims made by former Kedah PAS deputy chief Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi, who said he is the president of the group.

Others named by him as office-bearers were Ahmad Husin (deputy president), Taib Ahmad (secretary-general) and Ismail Abdul Rahman (treasurer).

The confusion has been murkier with yet another unverified set of names that was circulated on the social media.

In this list, the NGO was allegedly headed by Ahmad Awang as the Mursyidul Am (spiritual leader) and deputy leader Muhammad Husin and president Datuk Husam Musa.
