Call to reject a PAS menteri besar met with boos at Muktamar
(The Malaysian Insider) – Tempers flared at the PAS general assembly again after a Youth leader called on delegates to support his demand that the party reject the appointment of a PAS Menteri Besar in Selangor.
Mohd Sany Hamzah’s proposal that PAS members at the assembly support his call was met with both cheers and boos from the thousands in the audience.
When he realised that the boos were louder, Mohd Sany said: “But why not? This is our promise in Pakatan Rakyat.”
PAS is grappling with talk that one of its Selangor assemblymen have been chosen as the new menteri besar to replace Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
If true, it would most likely strain ties between the party and its allies in PR, as the current understanding is that the post should go to PKR.
Earlier this morning, two other delegates had wanted an emergency motion tabled on the question of whether PAS would accept the appointment of one of their own as menteri besar.
Mohd Sany went a step further than the two by asking that members voice their support for his call that PAS refuse the appointment.
However, his call was met with both shouts of “sokong” (we support) and more shouts of “tidak sokong” (we don’t support).
The party’s chairman Datuk Abu Kassim Abdullah was forced to interject and tell the assembly to calm down as those against Mohd Sany’s proposal shouted louder.
Undeterred, Mohd Sany told the crowd that the central committee had also decided to reject the post.
