(The Star) – PKR deputy president Azmin Ali says the party has unanimously endorsed him as the new Selangor Mentri Besar.

His comments came after the party’s political bureau held an emergency meeting late Monday following the Selangor Palace’s decision to appoint him as the mentri besar to replace Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Earlier, the Palace sent out a letter appointing Azmin to the top post.

An official announcement on the appointment would be made at 9am on Tuesday, followed by the swearing-in ceremony at 10am.

Azmin was among three candidates “interviewed” by Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah last week to assess their suitability for the top post.

The other candidates were PAS Sijangkang assemblyman Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Chempaka assemblyman Iskandar Abdul Samad.

Azmin is Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Gombak MP.
