BN’s Mat Razi wins Pengkalan Kubor by-elections following the final count of the votes this evening

(Free Malaysia Today) – Barisan National candidate Ustaz Mat Razi Mat Ail has won the Pengkalan Kubor by-election with a bigger majority, after all votes were tallied at the vote tallying centre in Dewan SMK Dato’ Biji Wangsa, Tumpat

Mat Razi defeated his opponent, PAS’ Wan Rosdi, with a 2,635 majority after garnering 9,961 votes. Wan Rosdi, meanwhile, garnered 7,326 and Izat Bukhary, 38 votes.

Pengkalan Kubor had a total of 24,039 registered voters in the constituency, 92.02% of them Malays.

The result was announced by Returning Officer of the Election Commission (EC) Mohd Sobri Ramli.

Mat Razi’s win, however, comes as no surprise as political analysts had widely expected BN to retain the Pengkalan Kubor seat after it fell vacant following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar from BN, on August 20.

In the last election, Noor Zahidi Omar won with a majority of 1,736 votes against PKR’s Saharun Ibrahim and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary.
