Is PAS being punished for its alleged recalcitrance during the MB crisis?

Roslan Bistamam, Free Malaysia Today

The 2008 and 2013 formula for Pakatan Rakyat was 4:4:4 based on the 15, 15 and 14 seats that DAP, PAS and PKR won respectively in the Selangor State Assembly.

That means PKR gets the Menteri Besar’s post plus three Exco posts. DAP gets the Speaker’s post plus three Exco posts. And PAS gets four Exco posts.

Now the formula has been changed to 5:4:3.

PKR, which has only 13 seats in the state assembly, gets the MB’s post and four Exco posts. DAP retains its quota of four—the Speaker’s post and three Exco posts. PAS, however, gets just three Exco posts and the meaningless Deputy Speaker’s post.

Is PAS being punished for being what DAP and PKR say is its recalcitrant stand in the issue of the sacking of Khalid Ibrahim and for proposing Azmin Ali as the new MB?

Some say Azmin should favour PAS for nominating him for the MB’s post. However, the Sultan said yesterday that he was the one who chose Azmin and gave his reasons why. Hence even if PAS had not suggested Azmin’s name he would have still been made the MB.

What is interesting to note is that it seems PAS agreed to the change of formula. But no reason was given. Surely Pakatan Rakyat should give an explanation. Otherwise, it would be seen as if PAS is being punished.

Was this what the Sultan wanted and is this why they are not talking? Would that explain the change of quota despite Azmin’s announcement on Thursday that there would be no change?
