Selangor exco portfolios may determine PAS’s future in Pakatan
(TMI) – If the PAS excos were sidelined in Azmin’s administration, it might be no longer tenable for PAS to remain in Pakatan.
The three PAS state executive council (exco) members in Selangor are expected to be assigned their portfolios today, in what will likely decide the Islamist party’s future in the state government amid speculation that its excos would be given less important roles.
A senior PAS leader said the party’s future in Pakatan Rakyat now hinges on the allocation of exco portfolios to its three exco members in the state administration led by Menteri Besar Mohamaed Azmin Ali.
“It now depends on Selangor. If Azmin also acts in the same way, to sideline the PAS exco, I am confident that Pakatan will break up and that is when PAS members will agree with its leaders,” the senior PAS leader told The Malaysian Insider recently.
Azmin is said to be having talks with his exco members to determine their respective portfolios today.
PAS exco member Zaidy Abdul Talib, when contacted by The Malaysian Insider, confirmed that the MB will be having the discussions today.
“Yes that is true, but I don’t know anything else about it,” he said.
The decision today comes as PAS’s relationship with its Pakatan allies is at a critical stage, with PKR and DAP joining forces to sideline the Islamist party.
