Azmin Ali Given A Week To Defend Sultan On MB Issue
(Bernama) – Unless Azmin came out with the statement defending the sultan, Selangor Umno Youth would have to take further action against those who attempted to undermine the institution of the monarchy.
Selangor Umno Youth yesterday called on Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to issue an official statement by the end of this week defending the powers of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, on the appointment of a menteri besar.
Its head, Zainuri Zainal, said Azmin should also dismiss a statement published by Alor Setar MP Gooi Hsiao Leong of the PKR on a portal recently allegedly urging the menteri besar to amend the state constitution to limit the powers of the monarchy.
He also said that Azmin should give an assurance to the people of Selangor that Pakatan Rakyat state assemblymen in the state would not introduce a motion in the state legislative assembly to curtail the powers of the sultan.
“Azmin should be the first person to defend the powers of the sultan. If he does not issue such a statement, it means that he agrees with Gooi’s statement,” he told a press conference held along with Kedah Umno Youth head Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin at the Kedah Umno office here.
Zainuri also called on Gooi to retract his statement.
He said that unless Azmin came out with the statement defending the sultan, Selangor Umno Youth would have to take further action against those who attempted to undermine the institution of the monarchy.
Meanwhile, Shaiful Hazizy claimed that Gooi’s statement was an alleged plan by PKR to tease the institution of the monarchy over the appointment of Azmin as the menteri besar of Selangor.
He pointed out that the Sedition Act 1948 could still be used against individuals who issued statements of a seditious nature and sparked chaos.
