Selangor economic council to meet over water deal tomorrow, says Azmin
(Malay Mail Online) – The Selangor Economic Action Council (MTES) will hold a special briefing tomorrow in a bid to review the state’s recently-finalised water restructuring agreement with Putrajaya.
Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali told reporters this at a press conference here today.
“Our priority is the water (agreement),” Azmin said.
Last week, PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he told Azmin to review the water restructuring and other deals signed under predecessor Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, claiming that some firms have profited from such agreements.
Khalid finalised the deal with Putrajaya during his last days in office, and said it was binding on his successor.
Under the water agreement, Selangor will infuse a new special purpose vehicle with RM14.92 billion in assets to manage the water restructuring exercise now finalised with Putrajaya.
The deal allows Selangor to take over existing water concessionaires and paves way for Putrajaya to construct the Langat 2 water treatment plant previously opposed by the Pakatan Rakyat government.
The water restructuring plan and the Langat 2 project were among several reasons given by PKR in deciding to remove Khalid as MB.
