The water deal was not Khalid’s sole decision says DAP

Another DAP leader has stepped forward to defend Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, disagreeing with claims that the Selangor Menteri Besar has been acting unilaterally on a number of key administrative matters.

THE CORRIDORS OF POWER

Raja Petra Kamarudin

Yesterday, Malaysia Today said the following:

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim announced that he wants the new Selangor Menteri Besar, Azmin Ali, to review the water agreement that the Selangor state government signed with the Federal government recently.

Anwar said there is something not kosher in the way Khalid Ibrahim “rushed” to sign the agreement just before he left office on Monday last week, suggesting that there is some wrongdoing on the part of Khalid.

First of all, it was not Khalid but the Selangor State Secretary who signed the agreement.

Secondly, what the State Secretary signed was what the Selangor State EXCO approved in February 2013.

At that time, amongst the ten State EXCO Members were Ronnie Liu, Teresa Kok, and Dr Xavier Jayakumar. In that meeting that approved the State’s takeover of the four water concessionaires at a price of RM9.65 billion were also the State Secretary, the State Legal Adviser, and the State Financial Officer.

Hence this was not Khalid’s decision or his sole decision. It was a unanimous decision of 14 people in that committee and, in February 2013, no one had any objections to the takeover. (READ MORE HERE)

And DAP EXCO Member, Teng Chang Khim, confirmed this, which you can read in the news item below. Hence the allegation that Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim made a sole decision and by-passed the EXCO is not true.

But then this is one of the reasons why Khalid was removed as MB — that he made a deal with the Federal government regarding the water agreement without the knowledge or approval of the EXCO.

Is Anwar Ibrahim lying or is he not aware of this although he was the Economic Adviser to Selangor?

DAP EXCO Member: Selangor MB didn’t run solo show on water deal

(Malay Mail Online, 4 August 2014) – Another DAP leader has stepped forward to defend Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, disagreeing with claims that the Selangor Menteri Besar has been acting unilaterally on a number of key administrative matters.

Although his party has already openly declared its backing of Khalid’s early removal from his Selangor Menteri Besar seat, Datuk Teng Chang Khim said it was untrue that the leader had not consulted others when making important decisions.

“It is not a true picture. He (Khalid) didn’t make decisions on his own without going through the Exco (state executive council),” the Selangor Local Government, Research and Development Committee chairman was quoted saying by the New Straits Times (NST) today.

Teng disagreed that the Selangor executive council was “kept in the dark” over a new water deal that was signed between the state government and the federal government last Friday.

“The notice to attend (the signing ceremony) may have been short but the matter has been discussed,” he said.
