(The Malaysian Insider) – The Attorney-General’s Chambers is confident that “brave” sex blogger Alvin Tan will come back to face the charges against him over his controversial Ramadan posting.

DPP Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin told the sessions court today that someone as brave as Tan would not leave his ex-girlfriend Vivian Lee, who is jointly charged for the offences under the Sedition Act and Film Censorship Act, to face the charges alone.

He said this when the case came up for mention today, where judge Abdul Rashid Daud enquired whether the warrant of arrest had been served on Tan.

“Someone as brave as Alvin, who comments on PDRM (police) and the courts from overseas, will surely come back to face the charges.

“What more, he will not leave his girlfriend in the lurch to face the charges alone, if he is that brave,” Wan Shaharuddin said, in asking the court for another mention date.

The court then fixed November 28 for mention.

Tan went missing after violating bail conditions while on a supposed working trip to Singapore in May. The sessions court then issued a warrant of arrest in June.

Last week, however, he emerged on social media and declared that he was seeking political asylum in the United States.

The 26-year-old told The Malaysian Insider in an interview that leaving Malaysia was the “the only rational action” as he was powerless to fight “tyranny and ignorance”.

Tan now faces yet another probe under the Sedition Act for criticising the country’s leaders on Facebook.

On Monday, police announced they had launched an investigation against Tan over his Facebook postings in which he had also superimposed pig snouts on the faces of several Malaysian leaders, including the prime minister.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) also lodged a complaint with Facebook requesting that Tan’s page on the social networking site be removed.
