At DAP dinner, PAS man asks allies to forgive his party
(TMM) – A PAS assemblyman who helped Pakatan Rakyat avert a potential coup in Selangor has asked DAP and PKR supporters to forgive his party for it role in the mentri besar post crisis.
Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungip said despite their dissappointment with PAS’ actions, DAP and PKR supporters must now look past the crisis and work towards strengthening PR and its preparation for the upcoming general election.
Saari said DAP and PKR supporters must accept the fact that the federal opposition can only oust Barisan Nasional if it is united.
“On behalf of my party, I apologise. I really hope all of you can forgive PAS,” Saari told a DAP fundraising dinner here last night.
“I hope now we can work towards strengthening Pakatan Rakyat…DAP and PKR will need PAS to take Putrajaya. And I will need your support, I will face challenges from my own party but I want PAS to remain with DAP and PKR in Pakatan Rakyat,” he added.
Saari was one of two PAS state lawmakers that pre-empted their party leadership by expressing support for PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace then MB Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.
Their action drew condemnation from many of PAS’ conservatives.
Some have called for stern punishment including sacking the two but the party said they will decide later if Saari and Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin should face the party’s disciplinary committee.
The duo, however, remain adamant that their actions were in line with the party’s policy ― to commit to PR, which was the resolution passed in its Muktamar last year.
