Police to record Zahid Hamidi’s statement
(The Rakyat Post) – Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be asked to have his statement recorded in relation to a police report lodged against him for alleged “seditious statements” he made during the Pengkalan Kubor by-election.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said for every report made, police would conduct investigations and the same standard operating procedures would be applied regardless of the accused’s position.
The police report was lodged by DAP’s Canning Garden state assemblyman Wong Kah Woh on Sept 23, claiming that the Umno vice-president’s speech had incited racial sentiments when he said that DAP had tried to pit the Chinese against the Malays during the 2009 Perak constitutional crisis.
No action has been taken on Zahid as yet, leading to several parties to say that the police were practising selective prosecution.
Khalid denied this and said that many individuals, from the governing and the opposition parties, have been charged in court for various types of offences.
“We know our responsibilities and we will carry them out. But we do not need to publicise who we are questioning,” said Khalid at a press conference in I-City here today.
Earlier, Khalid had gone for a tour around the tourist establishment to look at the security and safety measures being employed there.
He added that besides Zahid, police would also record the statements of “whoever needs to be recorded, regardless of their positions”.
Zahid was accused of uttering the seditious remark at a talk during the Pengkalan Kubor by-election held in Kelantan last month.
