Two PAS rebel assemblymen suspended for one year

Hasnul-Saari

(The Star) – Two rogue Selangor PAS assemblymen have been suspended from the party for one year with immediate effect.

In announcing this, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said the duo, Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib and Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin could, however, appeal to the Syura Council within 15 days.

He explained that the two are still PAS assemblymen but they could not represent the party in any events.

“Their work as assemblymen is not affected. This is only concerning their membership,” said Mustafa after attending the PAS central committee held at the party headquarters here, which lasted about five hours, Sunday.

“According to the party constitution Article 83(4)(5), they can write an appeal to the Syura Council within 15 days, starting today,” he said.

The two were found guilty of breaching the party instructions for supporting PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the Selangor mentri besar candidate.

Both Saari and Hasnol met Mustafa on Sept 29 to explain their decision in signing the statutory declarations supporting Dr Wan Azizah.

Their action had drawn the ire of several PAS leaders as they did not consult the party, and angered party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang who described them as “lackeys” who were “bought over”.

When contacted, Hasnol said he already “expected” the decision but needed to wait for the official letter of the suspension.

“At least I have expected this. I have to think whether to appeal or not. I will wait for the official letter first,” he said.

Saari also said that he was only informed about the suspension through the media.

“I need to wait for the official letter and I will only decide then,” he said.
