(Bernama) – PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat today expressed support for the action of suspending the party membership of two Selangor PAS assemblymen for going against a decision made by the party’s ulama faction.

The two had made a stand which contradicted the decision in support of Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to remain as mentri besar during the Selangor leadership crisis by backing Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post instead.

Nik Abdul Aziz said PAS’ decision taken against its Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib and Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin, of suspending their party membership for a year effective yesterday, was apt.

The PAS stalwart was speaking to reporters at his office in Kota Darul Naim, here.

Asked whether the two assemblymen might quit PAS following the action taken against them, the former Kelantan mentri besar said it was their right to do so.

“If they want to leave the party, it’s their business. This means they will have to face the ‘rakyat’ (people); previously they were campaigning for PAS, then for another party. They’re insensible,” he said.

Yesterday, PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said the suspension decision on the two assemblymen was made after they betrayed the decision of the party’s Dewan Ulama to support Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim to remain as Selangor mentri besar.

Saari and Hasnul had earlier signed a statutory declaration to support Dr Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for the mentri besar post.
