(NST) – A PKR grassroots leader has claimed that party deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali had betrayed the party by allowing himself to be appointed as the new Selangor menteri besar.

Kota Baru PKR deputy Youth chief Mohd Afiq Ayob yesterday said Azmin had breached party rules by going against the party’s decision to nominate only party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the post.

“Azmin doesn’t care (about the party’s decision) and is willing to humiliate the party’s president by seeking the post himself,” Afiq said yesterday.

He said PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was now labelled a “traitor” in his party due to Azmin’s political ambitions.

“Five Pakatan Selangor assemblymen had allegedly withdrawn their support for Dr Wan Azizah to become the new menteri besar,” he said, adding that Azmin had played a role in the withdrawals.

Afiq said despite Azmin’s subversive actions, no disciplinary action was taken against him.

“The party has made a U-turn and followed Azmin’s decision (to become Selangor MB). The people are watching and they are becoming disappointed (with PKR).”

He said the party should not practise double standards in meting out punishments against those who had broken the rules.

On Thursday, a former PKR central committee member claimed that five Pakatan Selangor assemblymen had retracted their support for Dr Wan Azizah.

Suspended PKR member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, popularly known as Chegubard, was quoted as saying this deliberate action was to allow her deputy, Azmin, to be appointed as the menteri besar.

He said three assemblymen were from PKR, while two were from DAP. However, he refused to name the three until they responded to his allegations.

“The question now is who created the statutory declaration, which was uniform in format and wording?

“Was its creation part of Azmin’s plan to make himself the new menteri besar?”
