Anwar’s supporters fail to topple police barricades
(Bernama) – Supporters of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is appealing his sodomy conviction at the Federal Court, once again tried to break through the police barricades around the Palace of Justice here at 2.20pm today.
Bernama pressmen witnessed several men attired in black shirts trying to topple the steel barricades to enter the premises but were prevented from doing so by policemen on duty.
The supporters were also seen screaming at the police to remove the barricades.
Some also burnt pictures of Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan (who had accused Anwar of sodomising him) while shouting curses.
During the commotion, New Straits Times Press photographer Mohamad Shahril Badri was hit in the face with an egg which came from the direction of Anwar’s supporters.
“I did not see who threw the egg,” he told reporters.
However, police got the situation under control a short while later.
