‘DAP taught social media users to be rude’
(The Rakyat Post) – The blame for the misuse of social media, especially Facebook, has been laid at DAP’s doorstep.
Bintulu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (SPDP) claimed that DAP was teaching the people to use social media for political interest.
“Anyone can say anything they want about a person on Facebook. It could be that we don’t like something or a political party, or we want to play up a certain political issue.
“The public are big users of Facebook, all sorts of things are said. Who taught them this?
“DAP taught them! During the by-elections,” Tiong (pic) said while asking Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Joseph Kurup an additional question in Parliament today.
Following the allegation, Seremban MP Anthony Loke Siew Fook (DAP) stood up to challenge the statement and asked Tiong to retract it.
“When did DAP teach this? When did DAP teach this? Withdraw, these are being taught by Umno cybertroopers,” Loke said
Tiong refused to retract his statement and instead asked the minister to provide guidelines on media freedom to ensure good level of unity.
“Social media users must be responsible users. It is my opinion … the use of social media by the public has given them certain freedom.
“However, it has been used to hurt the feelings of other people. The public must bear responsibility. If there are those who have broken the law, action will be taken against them,” Kurup said with regard to Tiong’s question.
He added that the actions of a small group of irresponsible people had stirred racial and religious sentiments.
Due to that, he said, the government had decided to keep an eye on social media users to overcome this problem.
On fostering unity, Kurup said the setting up of 1,781 unity kindergartens nationwide will be used as a platform to achieve that goal.
