Angeline Francis says there was domestic violence in her parent’s marriage and that she supports her mum’s decision to divorce.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Angeline Francis, 31, daughter of Malaysian tycoon Khoo Kay Peng and Pauline Chai said her father had lost his “moral compass” and that she was behind her mother in the now high-profile divorce dispute.

Speaking from London to the Malay Mail Online, Francis said that her parent’s marriage was ravaged by domestic violence and that she was proud her mother was standing up to her dad after so many years.

She said, “Ultimately, I feel proud of mum for being so brave, I feel relief, the divorce has given the rest of the family freedom from an oppressive situation”.

Francis also lamented that her dad was no longer aware of the things that were important in life.

“My heart is heavy for dad because if his behaviour continues, he’ll be alone in his twilight years, estranged from all his kids.”

Over in Kuala Lumpur, tycoon Khoo, who is the non-executive chairman of international fashion brand Laura Ashley told the High Court that Chai, who was once Miss Malaysia 1969, had never worked a day in her life.

“She’s always been a housewife. She’s never worked in her life,” Khoo told the court.

The 75-year-old retail and hotel magnate also said he was a staunch Christian who cured himself from a stroke through prayer alone and that God healed him the very same day that the stroke hit him.

Khoo and Chai who married in 1970 and have five children, separated last year.

While Khoo maintains residence in Malaysia, Chai has settled down in the UK at a country house in a 1,000 acre estate in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire.

Chai also declared that her soon-to-be ex-husband was worth over £400 million despite Khoo denying he had assets amounting to so much.
