Azmin: Bibles belong to the Christians, not Muslims

(FMT) – New MB wants an amicable resolution to the seized Bibles and has spoken to the Sultan about the issue.

Selangorians got a first hand look at how decisive their new menteri besar was when he spoke to a crowd of 1,000 DAP supporters telling them that the Malay- and Iban-language Bibles seized on January 2 this year must be returned to the Christians.

“The Sultan (of Selangor) and I have discussed the matter… and the Bibles belong to the Christians, which is a fact we must respect,” Azmin said.

He also said Islam did not condone the practice of seizing the holy books of another’s religion as it had a negative effect on the harmony enjoyed by Selangorians.

“Islam has never told its followers to disrupt the harmony of those from other faiths. We must respect the practices of the other religions in our country. This is a multi-religious society. This is not Saudi Arabia or Sudan. This is Malaysia. This is Selangor,” Azmin said.

The menteri besar also said he was confident the “formula” he was working on would result in the Bibles being returned to their rightful owners, the Christians.
