Putrajaya ‘putting the cart before the horse’, says PPS deputy chief over ban
(TMI) – “PPS assets and accounts are Penang state government assets,” he said when contacted. “We won’t hand over to them.”
The deputy commander of Penang’s Voluntary Patrol Unit (PPS) said Putrajaya and the police were “putting the cart before the horse’ in declaring the unit illegal more than two months after arresting its members.
Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik (pic) said the declaration, which was reportedly only made yesterday by Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, should not be used retrospectively on the members.
“The declaration under Section 5(1) of the Societies Act 1966 that the PPS is illegal should not have a retrospective effect,” Ng said in a Facebook posting.
“However, the police has put the cart before the horse.”
Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Khalid Shariff announced today that Zahid had invoked a clause under the Act empowering the minister to declare an organisation illegal.
The declaration means the use of the PPS name, symbol and logo is banned, and its accounts, assets, and properties are to be wound up by the Malaysian Insolvency Department, he said.
Ng maintained that PPS is a state government entity.
