Take action against DAP politician, warns Malay council
(The Rakyat Post) – Ling had yesterday questioned whether religious schools were guilty of being divisive in response to claims that vernacular schools did not promote unity.
The Malay Consultative Council has warned that Muslims will rise against the government if no immediate action was taken against DAP Member of Parliament Oscar Ling.
Referring to Ling’s remark that religious schools could racially divide the country, its secretary-general Datuk Dr Hasan Mad said he would not let non-Muslims “challenge and intimidate” Islam.
He also demanded that Ling be charged under the Sedition Act for his remarks.
Hasan, in a report published in Ismaweb.net, reminded non-Muslims to accept that Islam was the federal religion as stated in the Federal Constitution, which should be adopted by all races in Malaysia.
“So there’s no need to violate the Constitution with any statements or sentiments.”
Ling had yesterday questioned whether religious schools were guilty of being divisive in response to claims that vernacular schools did not promote unity.
The issue was sparked off when the Sibu lawmaker discovered that an SPM book had a short story titled Melissa, which seemed to blame the Chinese for being responsible for the racial tension in Malaysia.
It also suggested that Chinese schools contributed to the racial divide in the country.
