(The Rakyat Post) – Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad has lambasted the act of three PAS lawmakers who questioned a fatwa issued by the state fatwa committee.

Iskandar said the stance taken by Khalid Samad (Shah Alam), Hanipa Maidin (Sepang) and Siti Mariah Mahmud (Kota Raja), was not the state leadership’s official stance.

He also warned Selangor PAS lawmakers to not jump the gun without consulting the party’s leadership.

“Openly questioning the decision by the committee is not a wise move. It would open a floodgate for all fatwas to be questioned. Such a situation would create confusion among Muslims.

“The three lawmakers had issued statements without consulting with the state central committee although we meet every Wednesday,” he said.

Iskandar said the three lawmakers should not have acted independently as they had contested in the general elections under the PAS ticket, and not as independents,” Iskandar said in a statement today.

He added that the trio would be referred to the PAS central committee for further action.

The three had recently questioned a fatwa issued by the Selangor Fatwa Committee, declaring non-governmental organisation Sisters in Islam (SIS) as a deviant movement.

SIS had filed a judicial review against the fatwa.
