Selangor PAS steers clear of fatwa issue
(The Star) – Selangor PAS has distanced itself from several of its members who defended Sisters In Islam over an edict issued by the Selangor fatwa committee.
Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Samad said the statements made by Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, Parit Buntar MP Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Sepang MP Hanipa Maidin were their own views and were made without discussions with other party members.
“PAS does not condone any move to question the fatwa openly. It is not right to do so.
“Therefore, we will refer this matter to the party central committee for further action,” Iskandar said in a statement yesterday.
On Tuesday, the MPs had questioned the committee on its recent ruling that pluralism and liberalism violated Islamic teachings.
SIS, on learning that the fatwa had deemed the group as deviating from Islam, filed for a judicial review, naming the Selangor Islamic Affairs Council (Mais), the Selangor government and the committee as respondents.
