PSD may withdraw student leader’s scholarship
(FMT) – A PSD letter, in Bahasa Malaysia, also refers to Fahmi’s “negative statements against the government in the media” in the wake of an Anwar talk.
Universiti Malaya student leader Fahmi Zainol, facing suspension for organizing a talk at the campus featuring Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, may be stripped of his government scholarship if his alma mater goes along with a government threat.
To add further insult to injury, he may be asked to reimburse the scholarship amounts that he has received so far.
The possible action on the scholarship emerges from a Public Service Department (PSD) show-cause letter dated Nov 6, sent to Fahmi’s Penang address, and apparently received by his sister.
The letter, referring to the Anwar talk which was “unauthorized”, gives the student leader seven days to explain why his scholarship should not be terminated and the PSD seek reimbursement for the monies which he has since received.
