Will Dr M skip next week’s Umno assembly?
He seems angrier with Najib than he was with Abdullah Badawi

Will Dr Mahathir Mohamad attend the Umno general assembly next week, given his relentless criticism of party president Najib Tun Razak? This is the question Umno observers are asking as they speculate on the ultimate effect that Mahathir’s displeasure will have on Najib’s political career.
One well known pundit, Shahbudin Husin, is in fact urging the former prime minister to stay away from the assembly.
In the latest posting on his widely followed blog, Shahbudin, himself a strident Najib critic, notes that all the president’s men have lately been ignoring Mahathir’s criticism, as if he’s a “useless old man”.
He also notes a recent inclination towards excessive praising of Najib’s leadership among Umno spokesmen from the various states.
“Therefore,” he says, “to show how serious he is in his criticism, Mahathir should not attend this year’s Umno assembly.” Only such a boycott would awaken Najib and the rest of the Umno leadership from the “dream world of their own making”, he adds.
