“Sedition Act should be retained”

(The Rakyat Post) – Umno delegates at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here tonight were in agreement that the Sedition Act 1948 should be retained as it was necessary to ensure certain quarters do not take the opportunity to tamper with the nation’s stability.

The party’s Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said, the Government can take any measures to fine-tune the Act, but it must be retained and its enforcement must be carried out more seriously.

“I feel that all party members are in agreement that the Sedition Act should be retained. Whether it remains as is, or is improved as what was suggested by the deputy president just now,” he said, in referring to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin maintaning in his speech at the launching of the party’s wings’ 2014 General Assembly Tuesday night, that the Act be retained, but with improvements made.

The same was said by Puteri chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.

She said it was important that the Act be retained as it will ensure the continuation of the Constitutional Monarchy practised in the country.

“We are in agreement with the deputy president said. We agree that the Act remain. And Puteri shares the sentiments of the Youth,” she said.

Meanwhile, in other developments, Umno Wanita chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said all Umno members should rise from the slumbers and bring something to the party which can invoke awareness amongst its members.

“I take things positively because when things happen, it serves as an awareness to us,” she said.

“To me, advise and reality checks as mentioned by the deputy president should stoke the fire within us and make it a challenge which I am certain Wanita members can achieve,” she said.
