Pro-govt bloggers failed to protect Rosmah, Umno, party assembly told

(Malay Mail Onlone) – Pro-government bloggers here have failed to counter the online attacks against Umno leaders and the prime minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, a student delegate told the 65th Umno annual assembly today.

Nur Farhana Mohd Anuar, a fifth year medical undergraduate in Russia said that while the Umno critics have been successfully using social media to spread alleged falsehoods about the ruling party, Umno bloggers, on the other hand, have proven themselves weak in countering the attacks.

“The honourable party president (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) along with other Umno leaders are often the targets of slander among the opposition members.

“Even Mother Rosmah (Rosmah Mansor) who is not a politician, is also a favourite target among bloggers who attack her daily without mercy,” Nur Farhana said.

The youth claimed, however, that in comparison, pro-Umno bloggers number fewer than those in support of the federal opposition.

Nur Farhana also urged pro-government and Umno bloggers to play an active role in cyberspace to succeed in disseminating positive information about the party.

“We are ready to become the young bloggers to defend the leaders whom we highly respect from being ridiculed in social media platforms by the opposition,” Nur Farhana said to thunderous applause from delegates.
