Umno AGM: Selangor delegate cautions against a bigger May 13
(The Star) – If rights and privileges of Malays are not defended and improved, a conflict bigger than May 13 may occur, cautioned an Umno Selangor delegate.
The delegate Datuk Ismail Kijo (pic) said the lack of focus in improving the economic benefits for Malay and Muslim community might also lead to bigger bloodshed.
“May 13 happened because economic instability and inequality among the different races.
“Now, we risk encountering a tragedy of a similar nature if people in charge do not do the right thing,” he said at the Umno General Assembly.
Ismail said that the Malaysian government had never stopped others from practicing their religion.
“But things are going over the limit and there are matters which are rightfully ours.
“We can’t just leave it as it is and that is why I wholly support the motion to retain and strengthen the Sedition Act,” he said adding that the Act would help maintain the position of Islam.
He added that the Sedition Act should also incorporate clauses that would protect Muslims.
Ismail also said that Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community was still allowed to freely practice their lifestyle in Malaysia.
“This should not be allowed as it is against the rule of nature and therefore we should do the necessary to curb it.
“With the help of several religious councils we have ‘cured’ over 20,000 cases and we hope they continue to carry on their good work,” he added.
