The ‘bangang’ Umno bloggers and cyber troopers
Nawawi Mohamad, (TMI) – The Umno bloggers and cyber troopers (UBC) could roughly be categorised into four groups. They are the obliged ones, those critical of Umno, the paid writers and volunteers.
The obliged ones are those who have made it through Umno and they must show their continuous support to Umno for their own survival.
They are totally indebted to Umno but not necessarily dedicated to the party. They are more rational and aware of the shortcomings and wrongdoings of Umno but dare not say anything. Thus, they are not able to express their support for Umno wholeheartedly.
They will get most of the comments from their followers or supporters in a more civilised way. There will be some mild mannered opposition to their point of views. But they are not in tune with the younger generation.
Those critical of Umno are the ones who sincerely hope Umno will change for the better. They may be or may not be indebted to Umno. But no matter how harsh their critics may be, they do love and support Umno with their hearts.
They will get negative response from the true-blue Umno. There will be few Umno supporters who will agree. They do not have many followers. The will not get much response from the opposition either simply because, they are doing the work of the opposition anyway.
The paid ones are just doing it for money. They are never critical of Umno but will show their unwavering support as though Umno never makes mistakes.
They are not able to put forward Umno’s point of view. Moreover, they do not know and care much about Umno, it is all about money.
This group will instead be very critical of the opposition. They have no restrictions and guidelines in their attacks towards the opposition to a point that whatever is written by them are mostly untrue, false, hearsay, twisted, vulgar, sarcastic, disrespectful, pornographic and utter nonsense. They are the most active among the four groups.
The responses to this group of UBC are two opposite scenarios.
In the first scenario, the Umno supporters will add salt to the wound and more insults against the opposition. Here will be the venue for all the Umno hooligans to voice their anger against the opposition.
They will overwhelm the comments section and there would be no room for the opposition to comment. Some comments from the opposition would also be deleted by the admin. Here, the UBC will just be “syok sendiri”. This category of UBC with the comments goes nowhere but become a closed group.
The second scenario is just the opposite, the responses and comments will be overwhelmed by the opposition.
Some will be harsh and vulgar, too, but mostly they will ridicule the admin, while very few Umno supports would come in. Somehow the admin tend to give a field day to the opposition.
The volunteers are the individuals who are not paid by Umno but are envious of the paid ones. This group of UBC just wants recognition from Umno leaders for their contribution.
They are not very active but will put their best effort during an election period. This group will not get much traffic from both the Umno supports and the opposition because they are a bit boring. But they are quite well mannered and at times do have something to say.
So the question is which group falls under the category of “bangang” as described by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak?
