Serve or quit, Speaker tells opposition leader

(FMT) – Hannah Yeoh gives Shamsudin Lias an ultimatum after he rejects the PAC chairmanship.

Selangor Speaker Hannah Yeoh today issued an ultimatum to Opposition Leader Mohd Shamsudin Lias to serve as Chairman of the state Public Accounts Committee (PAC) or resign his position in the state assembly.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference at the State Secretariat Building here, Yeoh ticked off Shamsudin for rejecting the post, pointing out that a new amendment to a standing order of the state assembly made it compulsory for the Opposition Leader to chair the committee.

“Umno Selangor has to decide who’ll be its next opposition leader,” Yeoh said.

“Right now, there are special allowances and official cars provided for the Opposition Leader and with all these privileges, comes also the responsibility to serve as chairman of the PAC.

“He can’t just receive benefits and not fulfil his duties and responsibilities.”
