Kit Siang: Uncertain if Pakatan will survive to contest GE14
(The Star) – It is uncertain whether Pakatan Rakyat can survive to contest in the 14th general election, says DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang (pic).
“If you ask me whether I can categorically say that the tripartite Pakatan Rakyat will be around to fight the 14th general election, I cannot answer you as I do not know,” said Lim in a blog post on Monday.
“It is no secret that things have not been well in Pakatan Rakyat, and this is why the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council has not been able to meet for over six months to reaffirm Pakatan Rakyat’s common policy framework and the consensus principle,” he said.
Lim said that both Pakatan’s common policy framework and the consensus principle were the two key prerequisites to save the coalition and restore public confidence.
He added that he had no doubt that those who voted for the Opposition coalition in the last election hoped to see Pakatan win in the 14th general election.
“But this is only on the proviso that PR keeps faith with Malaysians to give top priority to the PR common policy framework and consensus,” he said.
The Gelang Patah MP further noted that Pakatan’s common policy framework and consensus had already been “breached”, such as on the issue of PAS’ hudud.
“A heavy political price will have to be paid by Pakatan Rakyat and all the three component parties, including PAS, in terms of popular voter support as well in parliamentary and state assembly seats, but most important of all, in public confidence,” Lim said.
