DAP acting like “police”, says Nik Aziz’s son

(NST) – Pas central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz has likened DAP to the police in a Facebook posting today.

The son of Pas spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had suggested that DAP’s call for Pas to embrace its brand of moderation approach was no different than an attempt to put a leash on the Islamic party.

It is learnt that the call was made by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng during the party’s national conference Sunday, following Pas’ position on hudud.

“DAP has urged Pas to adopt a moderation by rejecting Islamic law. It seems that DAP’s new mission in the run-up to the 14th General Election is to steer Pas’ direction (away from its original objectives).

“DAP is placing a whole a load of work on its shoulders. It feels like they are the police now. How am I reminded of (United States of) America,” said Nik Abduh, who is also Pasir Mas Member of Parliament.

DAP and Pas have been on constant loggerheads on the implementation of hudud in Kelantan. The former had cited that the law had no place in today’s legal system while the latter insisted on the right to enforce Islamic jurisprudence.

Meanwhile, the Kelantan Pas government had set Dec 29, for a special state assembly meeting to table an amendment to the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993, or hudud.
