PAS claims hudud is a ‘democratic’ right
“Had the people rejected PAS during the last General Election, it would mean that they had rejected hudud.”
(Free Malaysia Today) – PAS, in a bizarre appeal on democratic grounds, has urged the DAP not to obstruct attempts by the Kelantan Government to introduce hudud law in the state. DAP is a PAS ally along with PKR in the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition.
The PAS Information Chief, Mahfuz Omar, did not refer to DAP’s stand that hudud was in violation of the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the land. He pointed out however that hudud is what the people in Kelantan want based on election results.
“Let’s not just talk about democracy but practice what we preach,” he said at PAS headquarters in politicising the issue. “Had the people rejected PAS during the last General Election, it would mean that they had rejected hudud.”
He did not say that the people returning the Barisan Nasional (BN) to power also meant that the ruling coalition was not riddled with corruption and warlordism as alleged by the Opposition.
He was referring to DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng, also the Penang Chief Minister, declaring in his policy speech on Sunday at the DAP National Conference 2014 that hudud law was not acceptable and besides it was unconstitutional.
