Will BN’s non Muslim partners pull out over hudud?
Lim Kit Siang wants to know whether MCA, Gerakan, MIC and the Sabah/Sarawak BN component parties will leave Barisan Nasional if Umno Assemblymen in Kelantan support hudud implementation in the state.

The Kelantan Special State Assembly on December 29 on the implementation of hudud in the state would be like manna from heaven for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, “as it would provide precious diversion and distraction from the mega 1MDB scandal!”
The bonus in the plot was to provide a life-line to Najib who is facing relentless attack and the greatest pressure in his five-year nine-month premiership over the RM42 billion 1MDB scandal.
Najib has attracted brickbats over the mega 1MDB scandal not only from Pakatan Rakyat led by MPs Tony Pua and Rafizi Ramli but also from inside Umno led by former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad and others like former Finance Minister Daim Zainuddin.
DAP elder statesman Lim Kit Siang, who reached this conclusion, wants to know whether MCA, Gerakan, MIC and the Sabah/Sarawak BN component parties will under the circumstances leave Barisan Nasional (BN) if Umno Assemblymen in Kelantan support hudud implementation in the state.
“MCA and Gerakan officials have been issuing very fierce statements about the Kelantan State Assembly special meeting on hudud implementation on Dec 29,” said Lim, who is also DAP Parliamentary Leader and Gelang Patah MP, in a statement.
Gerakan President Mah Siew Keong even challenged political leaders from both Pakatan Rakyat (BN) and BN to ‘reject hudud if they were responsible politicians’, added Lim, and to “make a clear and unambiguous stand to reject Hudud as it is unconstitutional and impractical in a multiracial society”.
December 29 was also a plot to save Umno and BN, which a Election Commission Chairman/Secretary for 25 years said are in their “death throes”, added Lim. “Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has conceded that Umno/BN would be ousted from power if the ruling coalition loses just two per cent of voter support in the next general elections.”
December 29, hence, was to create division in PR over the issue of hudud implementation, warned Lim.
Although DAP and PKR leaders, and the PR Leadership Council, were taken completely by surprise by the Sunday announcement of the Kelantan Menteri Besar, Ahmad Yakob, on the December 29 meet, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom was clearly not surprised, pointed out Lim.
“He’s preening himself with pride in successfully carrying off the greatest political coup in Umno history.”
