DAP must not dispute PAS stand on hudud

(Bernama) – PAS has asked DAP leaders to be more prudent in making statements on PAS policies.

Its Dewan Ulama information chief, Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali at-Takiri, said PAS respected the democratic right of the DAP to hold differing views and to disagree, but it was inappropriate and not good for the DAP to continue to dispute PAS’ right to champion hudud laws.

“It is an attempt to break up the Pakatan Rakyat (PR),” he said, adding that this was one of the many DAP moves that questioned PAS actions, including in relation to the now-settled Selangor menteri besar issue.

Mohd Khairuddin said common policies where there could be compromise formed a part of the joint general election manifesto based on the concept of a welfare state and a fair-for-all state.

He also said each of the PR parties respected the differences in policies and struggles of the other parties, which formed the basis of the understanding in PR.

Mohd Khairuddin said Islamic criminal law, including hudud, was a part of the non-bargainable PAS struggle.

“It is the right of PAS to continue to struggle for the implementation of the law for Muslims in Muslim-majority Kelantan and Terengganu, unless non-Muslims wanted it to be implemented for them as well,” he said.

The DAP 2014 national convention last Sunday approved nine resolutions encompassing 32 matters, including the rejection of the proposed implementation of hudud.

At the convention, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng urged PR to make a stand not to implement hudud if it wanted to win the next general election.
