Pas: Guan Eng’s statement exploited
(NST) – Pas has no issue with Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s actions in allowing non-Muslims in the state to use the word “Allah”.
Its deputy president Mohamad Sabu said the matter had been decided and spelt out in the Penang Islamic Administration Enactment 2004 and that it was not applicable to non-Muslims as the enactment’s enforcement was only for Muslims. He claimed the issue was blown out of proportion by Barisan Nasional.
“As it is, there are already demonstrations going on in Penang. What happened is not right and the statement made had been exploited,” he said yesterday.
Meanwhile, commenting on the special state assembly sitting on Dec 29 to table an amendment to the Syariah Criminal Code Enactment II 1993, or hudud, Sabu said Pas had no problems in efforts to implement the law in Kelantan as it had been agreed upon before the formation of the opposition pact.
“As such, we will continue to talk to our friends in the opposition to ensure they get the right information on the implementation,” he said .
