Kit Siang says pointless to attend future Pakatan meets if PAS insists on hudud

(Malay Mail Online) – Veteran DAP leader Lim Kit Siang said today he sees no point in attending future meetings with the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leadership council should PAS insist on pushing for hudud during the Kelantan special assembly next week.

The 73-year-old politician pointed out that the PR leadership had already agreed during its September 28, 2011, meeting that hudud was not part of the pact’s common policy framework and implementing it would require the agreement of all three parties.

But, he pointed out, PAS has charged ahead with its hudud plans, disregarding the 2011 agreement struck with its PR allies in PKR and DAP.

“If the Kelantan State Assembly special meeting to push through the implementation of hudud, which even the PAS Central Committee is unaware of, is held, I see no purpose in my attending any future Pakatan Rakyat Presidential Council meetings, and I leave it to the party to decide on its next course of action,” Lim said in a statement here.
