How do you argue with a Muslim?
And that is why it is impossible to argue with some Muslims when it comes to matters of faith and belief. In fact, it is the same with all theists and religionists. They believe, and that is that. And there can be no further discussion on the matter.
NO HOLDS BARRED
Raja Petra Kamarudin
How do you argue with a theist and tell him/her that there is no such thing as God and that God does not exist?
How do you argue with a religionist and tell him/her that there is no such thing as religion and that all those many so-called religions are man-made and false?
How do you argue with a Buddhist and tell him/her that Buddha is a myth and that there is no such thing as Buddhism?
How do you argue with a Hindu and tell him/her that the many Hindu Gods are folklore and stories and that all these so-called Gods do not exist?
How do you argue with a Jew and tell him/her that the so-called stories from the Scriptures are mere stories and that none of those events actually happened?
How do you argue with a Christian and tell him/her that Jesus may not have existed and that all those stories about Jesus are too far-fetched and were fabricated?
How do you argue with a Muslim and tell him/her that Islam was a political movement and not a religion and that the true religion of Muhammad is the religion of Abraham and hence the so-called Islamic laws are actually Jewish laws and that there is no such thing as Hudud?
The answer to all the above is you can’t. And you can’t because you are dealing with faith and faith defies logic. Either you believe or you do not believe. Belief cannot be explained or rationalised.
Hence there will be many Muslims who will swear that Hudud is God’s law and that it is mandatory upon all Muslims to uphold and implement God’s laws. And if you refuse then you would be defying God and that is not allowed.
So, when you tell Muslims that Hudud is stupid, Hudud is archaic, Hudud is barbaric, Hudud must be opposed, and so on, then you would be regarded as opposing and insulting Islam and would be seen as denying Muslims their right to practice their religion according to how they perceive God wanted it.
You may argue that Hudud is unconstitutional. You may argue that Hudud goes against the spirit of human rights and civil liberties. To many Muslims, however, there is only God’s right and God’s constitution. All other concepts and doctrines cannot be above God’s command.
And that is why it is impossible to argue with some Muslims when it comes to matters of faith and belief. In fact, it is the same with all theists and religionists. They believe, and that is that. And there can be no further discussion on the matter.
