Pua refuses to ‘shut up’ over NSC’s lazy handling of floods
Hitting back at the NSC for criticising him, Pua also demands an emergency parliamentary sitting and a RCI be set up immediately.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Refusing to “shut up” as implied by the National Security Council, DAP’s National Publicity Secretary Tony Pua is insisting not only an emergency parliamentary sitting be held immediately but a Royal Commission of Inquiry be set up to investigate the “causes and management of the worst natural disaster to hit Malaysia in recent years”.
In a statement, Pua said, “Instead of exonerating the NSC from blame over the weak management of the flood disaster, its own statement proved the need for a detailed public post-mortem once the current crisis is dealt with.”
The MP for Petaling Jaya Utara was referring to a statement from the NSC admitting the nation’s recent floods were a “disaster beyond expectations”.
Pua also hit back at the NSC for criticising him over his remarks about their handling of the flood, saying he only did it so they could “right those mistakes, buck up and mitigate the problems faced by the people.”
Another point Pua rebutted was NSC’s accusations that he had made “wild allegations” by quoting rumours on social media, when all he was doing was quoting a report from Astro Awani where the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Umno Chief in Kelantan, lamented the lack of real leadership in the handling of the floods there.
In a cynical tone, Pua said, “I didn’t realise that Astro Awani is a social media channel which cannot be trusted, or that Dato’ Seri Mustapa is an ‘unreliable source’”.
He also took issue with the NSC threatening him with libel for claiming the deputy prime minister took his time before calling for a meeting on how to deal with the floods.
