RMAF military court finds Major Zaidi guilty
(The Sun Daily) – The military court of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has found Major Zaidi Ahmad(pix) guilty on two charges pertaining to the indelible ink used during the 13th general election (GE13) last year.
The five member panel presided by Colonel Saadon Hassan announced the decision this morning after court convened.
The defence team led by counsel Hanipa Maidin was noticeably absent after the convening authority dismissed the defence’s application to dissolve the court.
Zaidi was found guilty on the second and third charge against him.
After being found guilty, Zaidi lost his cool when he was continuously interrupted by the panel while attempting to give his statement.
“If this is a matter of honesty, then the truth will triumph. But this is a political game,” Zaidi said during his appeal, before sentencing.
At this juncture, Saadon cautioned Zaidi to refrain from blaming politics, as the military is impartial and apolitical.
“You have already found me guilty, so at least now please let me talk. Don’t tell me what to say, I am not a kid,” Zaidi vented.
The panel said that he should refrain from bringing up other matters and should only speak of matters that would be in favour of his sentence.
“Since clearly you don’t want to hear me talk, we will meet in the Almighty’s court,” Zaidi said.
Zaidi is due to be sentenced when the court convenes in the afternoon.
