(MMO) – The Federal Territories Islamic Department (JAWI) will apply for an arrest warrant if the Malay girls allegedly “molested” by a K-pop band refuse to cooperate with its investigation, director Paimuzi Yahya said.

The JAWI head said the girls will be given a week to come forward. “The case will be presented to the court and any punishment or fine will then be decided,” he was quoted as saying today in Utusan Malaysia.

“As with previous cases, the court would typically send those found guilty of wrongdoing for counselling sessions with Jawi,” he reportedly told the Malay-language daily.

In a statement yesterday, JAWI said it is investigating the girls, who were shown in a video embracing and being kissed by members of the K-pop band, for public indecency and outraging Muslims.

The Islamic authority said it will investigate the matter under Section 29 of Syariah Criminal Offences (Federal Territories) Act 1997.

“The action of a few fans were inappropriate, it went against Islamic teachings and disturbed the sensitivities of Muslims in this country,” the JAWI statement said.

“As an Islamic authority, we will also carry further investigation if there is sufficient evidence.”
