(The Star) – “The Alimat Department of the PAS ulama wing views this matter seriously, as it would invoke the wrath of Allah if left unchecked.”

A women’s section of PAS ulama is seeking a blanket ban on entertainment shows which are deemed to undermine moral values.

The Alimat Department chief Ustazah Mastura Ismail said the authorities should stop such programmes which promoted moral decadence among youths.

Referring to last weekend’s concert here where South Korean group B1A4 was seen hugging and kissing several Muslim female fans on stage, she said: “We appeal to the Government to halt such programmes that could draw Muslim youths into vice.

“The Alimat Department of the PAS ulama wing views this matter seriously, as it would invoke the wrath of Allah if left unchecked.”

PAS information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar said action should be taken against the organiser of the concert.

“The authorities should call on the organiser to explain why tudung-clad girls were allowed on stage only to be treated in such a degrading manner.

“We also want to know if the artistes adhered to any given guideline on how they should behave when performing in Malaysia,” he said.

PAS central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh, who is the son of PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat, voiced regret over the behaviour of some youngsters today.

“It has reached a worrying stage,” he said, adding that this was a “side-effect” of globalisation that is beyond control.

“The new culture is undermining human dignity,” he said.

He also claimed that two bar counters were opened at the concert hall to sell liquor.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said investigations would be carried out on the matter.

He said the public must understand religious sensitivities especially in Malaysia, where Muslims must abide by the code of ethics and be courteous.

“The community is very sensitive when such issues crop up, but nevertheless the religious authorities are investigating the matter.

“So for now we will let Jawi (Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department) carry out their investigations first before coming up with any conclusion,” he told reporters yesterday after handing over a cheque for RM300,000 to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir for flood victims in Perak.
