(The Rakyat Post) – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he is willing to assist in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) probe against former Malaysian Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin’s banking business overseas.

“I hope the MACC will conduct their investigation in a professional manner.

“The investigation should also look beyond banking matters.

“I have information that some evidences were found in the past, but were kept away in files instead,” he said, when asked by reporters to comment on the matter during a Meet Anwar Selangor dialogue this afternoon.

National news agency Bernama had recently quoted Daim, who owns a bank in Tanzania, as saying that he would co-operate with MACC in its investigation.

Daim was also quoted as saying that he had been investigated on the matter twice in 1999 and cleared of any wrongdoing.

Both Anwar and Daim were Cabinet ministers during the tenure of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Anwar had served as Daim’s deputy when the latter was Finance Minister.

Anwar had previously said in a press interview that he would never forgive Daim for the latter’s alleged wrongdoing, including corruption.

Daim had recently been vocal against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak over his handling of the economy and national politics.
