Memo containing 5,000 signatures submitted by residents to the mayor of Petaling Jaya.

(Free Malaysia Today) – In a surprising turn of events, 5,000 Petaling Jaya folk have signed a memo in support of the proposed Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) that has in the recent past invited much controversy from opposition leaders and the public alike.

The memo was submitted to Petaling Jaya deputy mayor Puasa Md Taib by a group of non-governmental organisations and resident representatives on Tuesday.

The signatures were gathered from members and residents backing Kidex, according to the Star Online.

These signatures mostly were from residents in Jalan Kelang Lama, Jalan Templer, Taman Dato’ Harun, Jalan Gasing, and Taman Medan.

Those living in Petaling Jaya 1, 2 and 3 were among the worst hit by the existing traffic congestion, said Shamsuddin Hassan, chairman and coordinator of the Petaling Jaya Selatan Rukun Tetangga.

He dismissed the claim by certain groups that the building of Kidex would result in air pollution, saying that those living in his neighbourhood and surrounding areas were already hard-hit by the smoke from vehicles stuck in the surrounding traffic congestion.
