Khalid Samad says whoever becomes Opposition Leader after Anwar Ibrahim, must have the support of all three parties in Pakatan Rakyat.

(Free Malaysia Today) – Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad clarified in a report carried by Sinar Harian, that the position of Opposition Leader does not belong to any of the allies in the informal Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance.

“The position does not grant absolute powers to change the policies of the alliance,” said Khalid in commenting on the on-going debate on who should replace Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim who was incarcerated last Tuesday by the Federal Court on a sodomy charge. “The Opposition Leader is a symbolic position.”

“Whoever becomes Opposition Leader after Anwar must have the support of all three parties in PR. The alliance must stand by him or her.”

Khalid was also expressing his personal opinion that Anwar would not seek a royal pardon, as that would be tantamount in his words to admitting guilt.
