After car torched, PAS MP says not discounting political motive

(Malay Mail Online) – A PAS lawmaker recently accused of conspiring to oust party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang was stunned to find his four-wheel drive parked outside his home on fire today.

Kuala Krai MP Dr Hatta Ramli said he was alerted by a local neighbourhood security guard at 3.30am who had spotted flames licking at the front part of the car parked outside the lawmaker’s Hulu Klang home.

“They (the perpetrators) left and some petrol had been poured over the car, before it was torched. I made a police report after that, am quite and surprised as this is quite a peaceful area,” Hatta told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

“I cannot discount, but I cannot speculate,” the PAS central committee member said when asked whether he thought the attacks were political in nature.

Last Sunday, Kuantan PAS Youth claimed there was a plot by more than half their party’s central committee leadership to bring down party president Hadi and the conservative ulama faction.

Kuantan PAS Youth chief Fadhli Ibrahim accused Hatta of leading the conspiracy to sabotage the party and to turn Hadi into a “puppet”.

Hatta has denied the accusation against him as well as the conspiracy to remove Hadi.
