Despite IGP’s refusal, DAP MP insists on fresh look at Altantuya case
(Malay Mail Online) – A federal DAP lawmaker lodged a police report today against Sirul Azhar Umar, hoping to compel the authorities to investigate the fugitive ex-cop’s claim that he was acting under orders when he killed Altantuya Shaariibuu in 2006.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng (pic), who lodged the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here, said Sirul’s remarks should be taken seriously as it ultimately means that the actual mastermind behind the Mongolian model’s brutal murder is still at large.
“I am making this report so that an investigation is initiated against the serious statement made by Sirul, especially on the point that those with the actual motive were still free,” Lim said when met outside the Dang Wangi station.
Lim said that if the need be, the police should fly to Australia to record statement from Sirul.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said there will be no new investigation on Altantuya’s murder, despite Sirul’s claims in Australia.
The national police chief said it was premature to start a new probe into the murder as Sirul has yet to divulge information that merited renewed scrutiny into the case.
“We do not see any reason to conduct a new probe into the case because of instigation of certain parties,” he was quoted as saying by news portal Malaysiakini.
“We will see first what he (Sirul) will reveal.”
Earlier yesterday, DAP MP Ramkarpal Singh urged the IGP to reopen the case following Sirul’s that he was acting under orders to kill Altantuya.
Sirul is reportedly considering revealing why he and another former police commando shot dead the Mongolian model and blew her body up with explosives.
