Shariah High Court discharges Border’s Nik Raina of selling unIslamic book

Borders bookstore branch manager Nik Raina Nik Abdul Aziz was discharged by the Shariah High Court here today of selling a book deemed unIslamic by local religious authorities.

But the 38-year-old is now finally released from the cloud over her head for the last three years when the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department (JAWI) charged her for allegedly selling and distributing the book by Canadian author Irshad Manji “Allah, Love and Liberty” which it claimed to contradict Islamic laws.
“Although Malaysia practises two legal systems, the civil and the Shariah court systems, the spirit of both are the same.
“The court also took into consideration of the absence of a clear status of the approval to the prosecution’s appeal.
