Najib sues Harakah Daily for defamation
Najib is reportedly acting in a personal capacity over an article, ‘Dana 1MDB biayai syarikat filem Riza Aziz?’
(Free Malaysia Today) – Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is suing Harakah Daily, the official mouthpiece of PAS, for defamation.
A Letter of Demand, according to Utusan Online, was served on the Harakah managing director, Rosli Yaakub, at 3 pm on Thursday.
Najib is reportedly acting in a personal capacity over an article, ‘Dana 1MDB biayai syarikat filem Riza Aziz?’ (1MDB funds behind Riza’s film company?)
The report, written by Rosli and published on February 12, is based on a New York Times article which questions the wealth of a young Penangite Low Taek Jho who is allegedly linked to Riza, the son of Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor by an earlier marriage.
The article raises questions about how Riza had the funds to purchase a luxury property from Jho Low and to finance his production house, Red Granite Pictures.
Harakah Daily, referring to the NYT article, said Riza had admitted funding his movie with money from “a sovereign wealth fund”, apparently a reference to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
