(The Malaysian Insider) – Rumours that PKR is paying people to join the #KitaLawan protest in support of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this Saturday are untrue, the party’s Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said today.

Messages circulated through WhatsApp and on Facebook that the party will pay RM150 per person and RM500 for lodging are fake and should be ignored, he said.

“No such thing as far as we’re concerned. We’ve never done that, all that we have done is just mobilise people to come down, but we have never offered financial incentives… there’s no such thing,” he told reporters today at a press conference at PKR’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

A screenshot of a letter bearing the PKR flag and the name and signature of secretary-general Rafizi Ramli is also circulating online but PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said it was a fake as there were several irregularities with the image.

“After looking at the image that is circulated, there are a number of irregularities, the letterhead is wrong,” he said.

The rally on March 7 is to call for Anwar’s release from prison, where the opposition leader is serving a five-year jail sentence after being convicted of sodomising his former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, in 2008.

The Federal Court last month rejected Anwar’s appeal against his conviction.

#KitaLawan, a youth movement under PKR, is leading the March 7 rally which will begin at three points in Kuala Lumpur.
